NOCTIS

last updated 5/5/2025

Noctis IV+ (or nivplus) is a mod of the game Noctis IV, which was released for DOS/Windows back in 2000. It's a space exploration simulator that is procedurally generated (think Minecraft or No Man's Sky). It's amazing.

This space is mostly just dedicated to logging my discoveries, seeing as every version of the game is no longer being supported with official GUIDE or GOES.net entries anymore. Entries are by date of discovery, not necessarily in any sort of alphanumerical order. Each log consists of one star and all of its orbiting planets and moons. Most, if not all, are written in the perspective of my Stardrifter.

Log II: Phie

Recent Entry: Lachrymose

The thought of finally finding life was exhilarating. Space is lonely. Supposedly us Stardrifters are solitary people, but I don’t feel solitary; I feel alone. Cut off, if you will.

Back to the task at hand – after arriving at the large, cloudy planet, my first task was to name it. Lachrymose felt fitting for my mood as I orbited. Here are some quick facts:

Rotation period – 000:234:360 triads // Revolution period – 027:039:194 triads // Radius – 0.0304 centidyams

Just from observing it, you could see a very thick atmosphere, fully covered by clouds. Clouds! Every planet has been such an absolute DRAG, so seeing something reminiscent of home for once has definitely put me in a better mood.

Log I: New Horizons

log created 5/5/2025 // last upload 5/8/2025

Recent Entry: Seraphim

Firstly, i've never flown a Stardrifter in my life. I can work my way around a terminal pretty easily, but this is different. It took some brainpower - and repeatedly hammering myself over the head - but after an hour or so i got the ship booted up, and... wow. Just wow.

The manual honestly gave me a headache at first. But that experience of making the first Vimana flight to the closest star i could find was exhilerating. my first star i visited was beautiful. I don't have any photos at the moment, nor do I recall its name, so it is likely lost to time. I quickly left it to find my first star I named - New Horizons. In its orbit was Seraphim, my first planet. No one else has (supposedly) ever landed here before.
